Silk Care

Silk is a strong, natural protein fibre woven into fabric which is then used to create our luxurious silk range of bedding and accessories. When it comes to silk, if you are good to your silk, it will be good to you! The better you care for your silk (by following the steps below), the longer it will keep its lustrous shine and softness and continue to provide the many health and beauty benefits associated with wearing and sleeping on silk.

Our silk products can be hand-washed or machine-washed as long as all of the steps below are followed.

For hand-washing:

  1. Gently hand-wash your silk in lukewarm water with a silk-friendly detergent – we love the Ecover Delicate Silk Laundry Liquid.
  2. Do not scrub your silk or leave it soaking, as this can damage the silk fibres.
  3. Rinse your silk in either lukewarm or cold water a couple of times until you are satisfied that the detergent is completely rinsed out.
  4. To dry, do not wring your silk, instead, lay your silk on a flat towel. Then, roll up the towel with the silk enclosed to extract the water.
  5. Once you have dried the bulk of the water from your silk from step 4, hang to dry but not in direct sunlight.
  6. Iron on reverse using low heat to get that beautiful silky shine.

For machine-washing:

  1. Put your silk in one of our dedicated laundry mesh bags and close the zip (this means you can wash your silk with other fabrics of similar colour).
  2. Machine wash this bag on a low temperature (30 degrees Celsius), gentle cycle.
  3. Use a silk-friendly detergent – we love the Ecover Delicate Silk Laundry Liquid. Avoid fabric softener.
  4. Hang to dry but not in direct sunlight. Do not wring or tumble-dry as this can damage the silk fibres.
  5. Iron on reverse using low heat to get that beautiful silky shine.
